Editorial Style Guide
The Editorial Style Guide is a resource for all NYU Langone Medical Center staff and freelance writers and editors working on Medical Center materials for internal or external general audiences. Adhering to these guidelines will keep all our communications consistent and helps to simplify decision making when writing. These guidelines are not intended for academic papers.
If an issue is not addressed in this guide, please consult the following reference materials:
- The Chicago Manual of Style: for punctuation and style
- Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary: for spelling, hyphenation, and word usage (Available online at http://www.merriam-webster.com/)
- AMA Manual of Style: for medical and scientific terminology and style
You may also e-mail the Office of Communications and Public Affairs for questions on style and wording specific to our institution, such as the correct names of departments.
This guide is a working document and will be updated regularly as needed. Please bookmark this page for future reference.
