Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD, Named “Outstanding Shoulder Surgeon” By Becker’s Orthopedic, Spine & Pain Management Review
Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD , the Walter A. L. Thompson Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and chair,Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center and the Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD), was named one of the nation’s “65 Outstanding Shoulder Surgeons and Specialists” in the U.S. by Becker's Orthopedic, Spine & Pain Management Review.
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), in 2008 there were more than 25,000 actively practicing orthopaedic surgeons in the United States, with approximately 25 percent of those specializing in shoulder surgery. Only one percent (1%) of all shoulder surgeons nationwide were recognized by Becker’s.
Dr. Zuckerman was recognized by Becker’s for his expertise in shoulder surgery, positions of leadership in professional organizations and institutions, research and development in the field and reputation among other physician leaders. He was the 2009-2010 president of the AAOS and is the author of many academic books and research articles that have appeared in journals such as the Journal of Arthroplasty, Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. He was recently lead author of a study, “Frozen Shoulder: A Consensus Definition,” which appeared in the March 2011 Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
