Medical Center Recognized by NHQC as one of “America’s Safest Hospitals (SM)”
NYU Langone Medical Center was recognized by Niagara Health Quality Coalition (NHQC) for the third consecutive year as an “Honor Roll” hospital in its annual New York State Hospital Report Card(SM), which evaluates hospital safety and quality. Only the top 15% of hospitals who have treated at least thirty patient cases and whose risk-adjusted mortality rate is significantly lower than the state average mortality rate on a given condition or procedure are selected to be included on the Honor Roll. Additionally, NYU Langone was recognized on NHQC’s America’s Safest Hospitals (SM) list, honoring hospitals that performed better than the state average in New York.
“We are proud to be recognized as one of America’s safest hospitals by NHQC and be on its Honor Roll for the third consecutive year,” said Robert I. Grossman, MD, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Medical Center. “We are committed to ensuring the highest level of patient safety and quality at the medical center for every patient, every single day.”
NHQC is a nonprofit, independent health quality group that develops and supports initiatives that improve transparency and health care services. NHQC's pioneering report entitled "America's Safest Hospitals(SM)" was also released to accompany this year's report card for consumers. Hospitals on the “Safest Hospitals” list had the fewest preventable complications, medical errors and infections among the 209 New York hospitals included in the survey.
In addition to NHQC’s report, NYU Langone is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report on its 2011 “Best Hospitals in America” and #2 Regional “Best Hospitals” rankings. The medical center also received a 98.50% overall Recommended Care score (a weighted average of the process-of-care scores) by WhyNotTheBest.org, an online tool that allows the public to track performance, using CMS data, on various measures of healthcare quality.
